Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Donald Burns, who departed this life on September 10, 2026, in New Boston, Michigan, at the age of 73. Born on January 30, 1953, in Panama, Mario lived a life marked by dedication and passion.

Mario served with the Michigan State Police with distinction as a police officer for 25 years, retiring with the rank of detective lieutenant. He was among the pioneering members of the Downriver Area Narcotics Organization (DRANO), reflecting his commitment to justice and public safety. Beyond his service, Mario found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often venturing into the outdoors to engage in deer hunting and fishing. His love of the open road was evident as a devoted member of the Warthogs Motorcycle Club, serving as president for the Downriver Chapter #10.

He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Griselda Burns. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 19 years, Robin Burns; his father, Milton Burns; and his children: Allison (Troy) Wells, Anthony (Chad) Waldron, Robert (Jacki) Thompson, David (Michelle) Thompson, and Haley (Barry) Dyer. Mario's legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and his siblings Debbie, Carmen, and Milton Jr., all of whom will remember him fondly.

Mario will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his community, and his love for adventure. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
